COKE ZERO / AR GAMES / CONCEPT, DEV, & PROMOTION

Opportunity

As official sponsor of March Madness, Coke Zero had 100,000 free streaming subscriptions for America’s most exciting month in sports.

Insight

Access to sports’ most competitive tournament should go to the sport’s most competitive fans.

Idea

We concepted, built, and promoted augmented reality basketball drill competitions inside of Facebook (and we did it way back in 2011),
rewarding the winners with access to March Madness.

Spin to Win invited fans to spin an AR basketball on their finger. Those who got the balance and speed right to keep it spinning longest won a subscription.

A second game, Buzzer Beater, was an AR free throw shooting contest to help find the country’s best (virtual) free throw shooter.

Users would start the game as an app in Facebook.

Using computer vision, we’d recognize their face and their finger.

We’d measure the direction and velocity of their other hand to make the ball spin (or fall off). Those with the highest scores moved to the leaderboard and earned prizes, including our streaming subscriptions.
